Rubbish collection and recycling

SOUTH NORTHANTS – RUBBISH AND RECYCLING

Household Rubbish and Recycling

We collect the rubbish for over 35,700 homes in the South Northamptonshire district.
The Council now runs the Twin Bin and Door-to-Door recycling schemes across almost the whole of the District.

  • The Twin Bin scheme gives you two bins – a black one for normal rubbish and a green one for compostable garden waste and cardboard.
  • The Door-to-Door recycling scheme provides you with boxes to recycle glass, paper, cans, plastic bottles, foil and aerosols.

They are collected on alternate weeks.

The bins are collected on the same day each week and you should leave them on the kerbside by 7:00am on the day of collections. If you have got real problems wheeling out the bin, then let us know and we can try and make special arrangements.

The Twin Bin scheme

The Twin Bin Scheme provides participating households with two wheeled bins; a black one for normal rubbish and a green one for compostable garden waste and cardboard.

In our village the collection is made on a Thursday.

We do not collect bins on bank holiday Mondays. Householders affected by a Bank Holiday will have their bin collected on the Saturday before the break. If you have a collection on the Christmas and New Year days off, we will let you know when your bin will be collected.

If you sometimes have more domestic waste than will fit into your wheeled bin, please store some less offensive waste in a plastic sack until your bin has been emptied, then put it in you bin ready for the next collection. We will only take the contents of the wheeled bin with the lid shut and no extra bags.

Please also remember that the wheeled bins should not be used for:

  • hot ashes
  • heavy materials such as large amounts of soil, stones, car parts and rubble
  • corrosive materials
  • liquids such as paints or oils

Door to Door Recycling Scheme

Unless you live in a flat or somewhere difficult to access, you will have:

  • one green box for glass and paper
  • one black box for cans, plastic bottles, aerosols and foil.

The green box is collected on the same week as the green bin and the black box with the black bin.

Textiles RecyclingWe now offer a bi-monthly collection of textiles from all households in the district.  This is in partnership with DB Collections who will donate £50 per tonne of textiles to the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA).  Special collection bags are posted through your letterbox every two months.
