Police messages

This is a message from Northamptonshire West Police to all members of Neighbourhood Watch in Northamptonshire.

Police have seen a recent increase in the number of Car Key burglaries in Northamptonshire. These thieves are particularly interested in high performance and value vehicles.

Car key burglaries usually occur overnight with offenders getting into properties simply by walking in through an insecure door, or by fishing the door keys through the letterbox with a hook.

Help protect your property against car key burglary by:

Keeping your doors and windows locked at all times, even when you are at home.

Storing your keys out of sight and reach from doors and windows.

Always parking your car in your garage if you have one. If not, ensure the car is parked on your driveway.

Always keep your car locked, even if it is in your garage, and consider fitting a tracker device, alarm and immobiliser.

Remember – Don’t keep house keys in the lock, ensure they are in a safe place that you can easily get to in the event of an emergency.
