Milton Keynes Printmakers – Iain Hodgkinson

Milton Keynes Printmakers is an artist led group dedicated to the production of original prints.

Printmaking is a major form of expression in Fine Art. An original print is an image created from a hand cut, or uniquely produced source. The number produced is determined by the artist or the printing process.

We have on site facilities for

  • etching
  • drypoint
  • relief printmaking
  • monoprint
  • collograph
  • carborundum
  • photopolymer printmaking.

Since 1988 we have been a group of artist printmakers based in our beautiful 18th Century studio, part of the Courtyard Arts Centre in Great Linford Milton Keynes, where we produce and exhibit our work. We run courses for beginners and printmaking master classes.

We run a regular programme of courses teaching basic printmaking techniques and for those with some printmaking experience we offer access to the studio through weekly skill share sessions.

We run occasional courses for students approaching university application.

For members and experienced printmakers we arrange master classes in our studio with professional tutors. These have included carborundum and monoprint, etching, artists’ books, wood engraving, photo-polymer and transfer prints.

My work consists of textural, aesthetic forms which are abstract and representational. I love working from actual landscapes and images and creating a response to them through line, mark making and ultimately through printmaking. I use a variety of techniques including collagraphs, etching, lino and woodcuts onto prepared mixed backgrounds. This relationship between the printed and the painted results in a marriage of texture, form and depth which I exploit to the full!

My current work focuses on my response to the landscape of the Lune Valley in Cumbria and Morecambe Bay, where I spend a lot of time. The colours and moods of the hills have been my inspiration for my current body of work.
