Bradden Village Hall

Dear Villager,

Happy (Belated!) New year to one and all!

As many of you already know, the Village Hall Committee has been reformed and consists of

Ali Sanger (Chair/sec.), Lower End

David Henson (Treasurer), Lower End

Pauline Williams, Glebe Farm

Hilary Williams, Willows Hill.

A huge thank you to Karen Martin who has worked tremendously hard over the last few years to organise events and look after the Hall in the absence of a committee. Karen will continue to look after Hall     bookings so if you would like to hire the Hall she is the one you need!  If you are looking for a venue for a “Do”, please consider our Hall – cost of hiring is only £6 per hour and with the beamed ceiling and wood      burning stove it has a character missing from many other local venues.

The main purpose of the committee is to organise social events and help raise funds to contribute         towards the upkeep of the Hall. Currently we are looking to re-paint outside and are also looking to       improve the heating system. We are not a closed shop and any offers of ideas for events, running events or help at events will be gratefully received!

The quiz night organised  and run by Geoff Markham (and family) was a tremendous success with a world-breaking profit into the bargain!

Following this, the Christmas Fayre on 24th November in the Village Hall was once again a big success. As well as an array of stalls, we provided tea, coffee and  mulled wine with a range of homemade cakes (thanks to Helen Castle for helping with that). For the children, there was a mini tombola (provided by Shirley Vaughn on behalf of the Rainbows) by so there was something for everyone.

BRAS (Bradden Real Ale Society) held their Christmas Do at the beginning of December – an excellent evening. They will be holding their next meeting on Saturday 16th March, 1pm start to watch the final 3 games of the Six nations and to celebrate St Patricks Day. Usual food and ales provided – cost to be       confirmed when numbers attending are known. Anyone interested in coming can either email             braddenale@hotmail.co.uk or drop a note through to Brodwin House, Water Lane.

Our last event was a Pampered Chef evening on Weds 30th January. Pampered Chef is a company selling good quality cookware specialising in stoneware. There was a cookery demonstration which gave people the opportunity to try out some of the gadgets followed by time to browse the catalogue along with a beverage or three. Unfortunately, it was not as well supported as we’d hoped (where were all you Hairy Bikers and Nigella Lawsons?) but on the plus side we still managed to make nearly £40 to go towards the Hall funds.

A reminder here for those of you who have not yet bought lottery tickets, it is still not too late –  we will be drawing January and February at the end of this month, so if you haven’t yet done so and wish to take part, please take your form and money to Neil Gallagher at the Old Post office, Church Row.  Some of you may remember, in times past, we used to have a gathering in the Hall at the end of each month to have a mini social and draw the months lottery winners and we thought we would try and revive this, but early on a Friday evening rather than a Sunday lunchtime as before. We are aiming to start this from the January/February draw. The Hall will be open on Friday March 1st from 6.30 with a view to drawing the winners at around 7 pm, so if you fancy a drink and chat to kick off the week end, do please join us.

Other ideas for socials are an Irish night, Pub night with a range of traditional games (dominos, darts, tiddlywinks), car treasure hunt – a fun activity for all the family , the ever popular Quiz Night and of course a major summer event. Your opinions would be appreciated.

We are hoping to send out quarterly newsletters, but the cost of printing is a concern. To help with this, we thought we would ask people in the village if they would like to promote their business by sponsoring a letter for the costly amount of £5. You would of course, get a special mention. Any takers please contact a member of the committee. Thank you! (In anticipation).

Our next main social is a coffee morning in the Hall on Thursday 21st March 10.30-12.30,   50p entrance.

Look forward to seeing you at future events.

  Bradden Village Hall Committee.
